The Xacobea maritime-fluvial Route will take you through the Arousa Sea and the Ulla River, offering you spectacular views and an unforgettable experience that will enrich your pilgrimage.

Travel the only maritime-river Via Crucis in the world, where you can contemplate the 17 centenary cruises that identified this Camino de Santiago as the “Traslatio“. THE ORIGIN OF ALL ROADS.

STAGE 1 / Pontevedra →Armenteira 23km

The variant is part of the Portuguese Way and begins in Pontevedra, in the Alba area, just two kilometers from the center. It crosses the City of Poio and heads to Combarro, a picturesque fishing town where its cobbled streets and more than 30 horres, which make it a place of great beauty, will not leave anyone indifferent.

The first stage concludes in Armenteira, a mountain town that houses the Armenteira Monastery, of great interest dating back to 1162, and offers accommodation upon availability to pilgrims. The Sisters of the monastery offer vespers and blessing to the Pilgrim at 7:00 p.m.

STAGE 2 - Armenteira→Vilanova de Arousa 24 km

The second stage runs from Armenteira to Vilanova on a route of low difficulty. From Armenteira to Pontearnelas the Pilgrim will walk along one of the most beautiful routes in the Rías Baixas: “Ruta da Pedra e da Auga” a unique natural area that runs along a path on the edge of a stream, surrounded by great vegetation, century-old trees, old mills…in a magical enclave.

After this route, the pilgrim passes through Ribadumia to end the day in Vilanova de Arousa, a coastal town where its beaches and gastronomy will delight all pilgrims.

STAGE 2 - Armenteira→Vilanova de Arousa 24 km

After this route, the pilgrim passes through Ribadumia to end the day in Vilanova de Arousa, a coastal town where its beaches and gastronomy will delight all pilgrims.

STAGE 3 - Vilanova de Arousa→Pontecesures

The last stage is concluded by Traslatio. We will board in Vilanova de Arousa to take the Maritime Route, navigating the Arosa estuary and going up the Ulla River until we reach Pontecesures, in a wonderful walk that lasts approximately one hour.

Once we arrive at Padrón, the Spiritual Variant ends, which joins the traditional Portuguese Way, leaving only 25 km to reach Santiago de Compostela.
